Gioia, born of Italian immigrants, was raised in St. Louis, Missouri. There she earned a BA in psychology and a Master’s degree in counseling. However art was a recurring theme throughout her life, methodically developing her talent while pursuing other interests. In 2004, after several years in private practice, she moved to North Padre Island, Texas to work full time as an artist
Initially Gioia worked solely as a sculptor, utilizing both welding and soldering methods. Her artistic direction quickly included painting as well. Gioia’s subject matter often is an extension of her sculptures that combine whimsical energy with sensuality.
